Two Tips to Follow if You're About to Buy Sliding Wardrobe Doors

Posted on

Here are two tips to follow if you've ordered sliding wardrobe doors.

Get the doors professionally installed

Even if you have plenty of tools and DIY books, you should get these sliding wardrobe doors professionally installed. The reason for this is that these doors must be fitted with perfect precision if they are to function correctly. If you get the installation wrong, you'll end up finding these doors, which are supposed to enhance your wardrobe and make using it easier, to be a nuisance.

For example, if you install the door tracks incorrectly, in a way that results in the bottom tracks not being aligned with the top tracks, the top and bottom ends of each wardrobe door may scrape against the track or get stuck when you try to slide it forward or backward. This scraping motion may gradually remove some of the paint off the top and bottom ends of the wardrobe doors and, if the doors get stuck, you might find yourself not bothering to use the wardrobe space behind those particular doors because it's so frustrating to try to open or close the door in front of them.

In contrast, if the doors are professionally fitted, their tracks will be perfectly aligned and they will slide effortlessly and smoothly from their closed position to their open position (and vice versa), and you'll get to appreciate how easy they are to use and how spacious they make your room feel.

Consider whether mirrored doors are right for you

People who get sliding wardrobe doors usually do so because of how much less space they take up when they're opened, in comparison to wardrobe doors that swing open. If this is one of the reasons that you're going to buy sliding wardrobe doors, then you might also be tempted to get mirrored versions of them, as by doing this, you won't need to have a space-guzzling, freestanding long mirror in your bedroom, and will,  therefore, save even more space.

Whilst this is an excellent decision if you want to save space, it's important not to get mirrored sliding doors without giving this some thought. For example, if you like your bedroom to be spick and span, you'll have to be diligent when it comes to polishing the edges of these mirrored doors each day, as you'll probably leave smudges on them whenever you use your hands to slide them open. If you don't have time to polish away finger smudges every day, then it might be best to stick with sliding doors that don't feature this mirrored, shiny surface, on which smudges can easily be seen.
